The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, announced that, through the General Directorate of Tourism Product Innovation, the Catalog of Traditional Mexican Cuisine was integrated for the Romance Tourism Segment, with the purpose of promoting and make known the traditional Mexican cuisine of each region of the country as an intangible legacy of the different Mexican cultures.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) pointed out that in Mexico we have a variety of traditional dishes in whose preparation they continue to use ancestral techniques and utensils such as the metate, the comal, the molcajete, among others.

For this reason, it is necessary to preserve our cultural identity through traditional Mexican food, which, today, is considered an intangible legacy of humanity.

This catalog presents Mexican dishes from towns located in the states of Baja California, Colima, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Yucatán.

It is also an exercise to offer national and international tourists unique and memorable dishes that they can taste at an important event, with the distinction of bringing to the table an authentic traditional Mexican dish, such as a proposal, a bridal shower, a wedding, a wedding anniversary, a post-wedding or any event related to the romance segment.

In addition, it is an important reference for promoting and disseminating traditional Mexican food, through the commercialization of Mexican dishes, prepared since ancient times and preserved with pride by the communities.

It was highlighted that the Destination Wedding Specialist Association (DWSA) participated in the integration of this catalog, since thanks to its design and editing work it allows us to offer a quality product.

All the traditional cooks presented in the catalog are people concerned about the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the region, which is why most of the ingredients used are grown or acquired within the same community, generating a value chain between inhabitants and final consumers.

The Secretary of Tourism mentioned that the family is a fundamental part of traditional Mexican cuisines, since, with their support, they contribute to the success in the preparation of the dishes.

Additionally, our traditional cooks have also made an effort to include other sectors of their community, such as single mothers, older adults or people of the same ethnicity, among others.
