What to visit?

Zaculeu

The northwest area of the Guatemalan highlands is located in the Department of Huehuetenango, where the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes is located, which is the highest in the entire Mayan Area.

Yaxha

Towards the southeast is Yaxha, on the shores of the lagoon of the same name, which has five acropolis-type groups of monumental dimensions and other buildings with many features similar to Tikal.

Uaxactun

Just 23 km north of Tikal is Uaxactún, which presents buildings from the Preclassic and Classic periods, among which its "Group E" stands out, which served to commemorate solstices and equinoxes.

Tikal

Of the ancient cities of the Petén, Tikal stands out, one of the most emblematic of the Mayan World and the largest in area, which is why it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, and was the first site declared as “mixed” due to its combination of cultural and natural heritage.
