{"id":588,"date":"2023-04-18T04:59:44","date_gmt":"2023-04-18T04:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gomundomaya.com\/\/?p=588"},"modified":"2023-04-18T05:05:01","modified_gmt":"2023-04-18T05:05:01","slug":"lamanai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gomundomaya.com\/en\/lamanai\/","title":{"rendered":"Lamanai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lamanai is the largest archaeological site in Belize after Caracol and the Mayan city with the largest uninterrupted occupation, since its constructions date from the Middle Preclassic to the Late Postclassic and Colonial era (17th century).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It lies along the western edge of the New River Lagoon, so its buildings are located linearly on a north-south axis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the northern end is the Temple of the Mascarones, characteristic for its anthropomorphic masks made of stone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pyramid shows a complex sequence of remodeling from the Late Preclassic to the Postclassic. To the south is the Great Temple, the highest on the site, 33 m high and whose construction dates mostly from the Late Preclassic period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this square is the Ball Court and Structure N10-27. The southern group or Complex N10 contains a plaza delimited by an acropolis on its northern side and the Jaguar Temple on its southern end, decorated with jaguar masks, made in a fairly geometric style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the site there are also the remains of a 16th century church, as well as what was a 19th century sugar mill. The Lamanai Site Museum contains a good sample of vessels, sculptures and other artifacts recovered in the excavations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The flesh of the man was made of tzite, but when the woman was fashioned by the Creator and the Maker, the flesh of the woman was made of cattail.
