Acapulco exceeds expectations in tourist infrastructure for the Mexico 2024 Tourist Tianguis

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Santos Ramírez Cuevas, representing Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, reported the progress of the recovery of Acapulco.

Torruco Marqués pointed out that for the 48th edition of the Tianguis Turístico México 2024, to date the attendance of 33 nations, 293 companies and 510 buyers has been confirmed, a figure that will increase in the following weeks.  

Ramírez Cuevas highlighted that,As of February 14, 7,110 rooms are available in 167 hotels; which exceeds the 6,700 rooms estimated for the first quarter of the year, and 24 events are confirmed for this year.

The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, and the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Santos Ramírez Cuevas, representing Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, announced that the tourist infrastructure of Acapulco for the realization of the Mexico 2024 Tourism Tianguis exceeds expectations after the actions undertaken after the passage of Hurricane Otis for the rebirth of this beautiful port.

Also accompanied by the president of the Association of Tourism Secretaries (Asetur), Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, the head of the Tourism Secretariat (Sectur) announced the progress made in carrying out the 48th edition of the tourism fair. most important in Latin America, which will be from April 8 to 12, in which the secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, will be present.

He pointed out that to date the participation of 33 nations has been confirmed; 293 companies, 168 national and 125 international; 500 buyers; and 10 VIP buyers, a number that will increase in the coming weeks.

Torruco Marqués also reported that among the international events that will soon be held in this destination, is the Mexican Tennis Open, a traditional meeting that will take place at the GNP Seguros Arena, from February 26 to March 2. , for which to date 11 players from the Top 20 of the world rankings have already confirmed.

Likewise, from March 18 to 24, the Padel Open will be held, a sporting event that is part of the main official professional padel circuit, also having the GNP Seguros Arena as its headquarters.

In addition, he added, from December 13 to 15 of this year, the Beach Soccer Tournament will be held, in which 4 national teams will participate in both the men's and women's categories.

The Secretary of Tourism mentioned that work is being done in the Plaza de las Personalidades, where tribute will be paid to men and women who have brought international fame to Acapulco, starting with the bust of the great scientist Alexander von Humboldt, the first German to arrive at the port. and who, through his writings, exalted the beauty of the bay, the most beautiful of all those on the coasts of the Pacific Ocean.

For the above, he added that Sebastian Ebel, president and CEO of TUI Group, one of the most influential outbound tourism companies that brings more than one million 200 thousand tourists to Mexico a year, was invited to visit Acapulco and unveil the bust. by Alexander von Humboldt.

Miguel Torruco distinguished the song Acapulco Renacerá, available on Sectur's official channels, as the spearhead for the port's promotion strategy, mainly on social networks.

He commented that, to promote the internationalization of Acapulco, other events that will be organized in coordination between the public sector and the private initiative are the International Mariachi Festival, which will be a competition to find the best performers of our vernacular music, a symbol of national identity, in three categories: best national performance, best international performance and best clothing.

He also mentioned that, as part of the actions to promote the port of Acapulco, a special edition of National Lottery tickets will be launched, with themes alluding to tourist sites of the destination, and for which there will be a large special draw, a special draw and a higher draw.

“Acapulco from the sky” will also be held, an international sports spectacle, in which participants will jump from buildings and emblematic structures of the port, an event that will be broadcast by a television network specialized in sports.

To accommodate various national and international automobile competitions in one venue, he stated that there is a project to build the Acapulco Autodrome.

He stated that, with the support of Lucha Libre AAA World Wide and its president, Marisela Peña, wrestling matches will be held; and joining efforts with the World Boxing Council, chaired by Mauricio Sulaimán, they are working on the World Boxing Championship, which will bring men's and women's fights to the ring.

 “The times have required us to do an additional task to our daily tasks. In the face of an emergency, we could choose to try to rescue already established products, or take a leap forward, creating new proposals. If anything has guided us throughout these years, it has been not 'dead swimming' or managing inertia. For this reason, we have redoubled our efforts so that Acapulco shines with all its splendor and is repositioned as a destination of quality and warmth worldwide,” concluded Torruco Marqués.

Representing the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Santos Ramírez Cuevas, thanked the support of authorities, the private sector and civil society to accelerate the recovery of Acapulco.

Regarding hotel infrastructure, he announced that, until February 14, 7,110 rooms are available in 167 hotels; which exceeds the 6,700 rooms estimated for the first quarter of the year.

He highlighted that for Holy Week and the Mexico 2024 Tourist Market, the expectation is to have 8 thousand rooms. He stated that air connectivity has been recovered at 80%, however, he assured that for the Mexican Tennis Open and the Tianguis Turístico, it will be at 100%.

Likewise, he indicated that land connectivity is now fully operational, the cruise calendar continues, which includes the arrival of ships with more than five thousand passengers and crew; and for the rest of the year, 24 events are confirmed, representing more than 38 thousand tourists.
